It all begins with an idea: To bring restorative food to our community through regenerative agriculture.

We need your support for our dream

Moon and Stars is actively fundraising to create a permanent hub that will serve as a place that brings food, farming and the arts together, creating a hub to serve our community. The goal is to purchase the iconic South Royalton House, currently the Black Lives Matter Building. With funding, South Royalton will become the first agricultural and culinary hub, perfectly placed in the center of the state.

Through our events, grants and generous donations, this center will give opportunities to the farming and food communities for here and beyond.

It will turn into much more

The focus of this center will be to serve as the community hub for the regenerative and restorative food economies and communities. There will be community space, a restaurant, housing, and food processing incorporated into the facility.

Housing:

One of the biggest problems we in Vermont face is talent retention. This is especially visible in the the food— farming and culinary— industry, and has much to do with the the high cost of housing, especially brutal since the COVID Pandemic in the state.. We plan to have affordable housing for food industry employees in the community that can’t afford the high rental rates.

The South Royalton house will offer apartments for farm workers, restaurant workers and more.

Corn Processing Space & Kitchen:

This space will be used to process the corn we grow. We will be able to produce 1,000 lbs of corn a day to make tortillas, arepas, tamales, chips and empanadas for the school system and the community.

The processing space will house a wood fire conveyor oven to produce arepas, tortillas and tortilla chips. Our nixtamal will be made from the wood ash from the oven, as completing the cycle.

The kitchen will be used to make the fillings and toppings for the empanadas and arepas but will also serve as the culinary kitchen for the restaurant and pub.

Community Space: The Ballroom

We will create a space that will be available for special events, art, yoga and more that the community can access to further the quality of life of our community.

In the South Royalton House, there is a 4th floor Ball Room that is currently in disrepair. This historic site will be revitilized for use across educational lectures, the arts and wellness activities.

Restaurant & Pub

The building has an subterranean original pub from the 1850’s built into the original stone foundation of the building. Moon and Stars will reopen this space and use it to create cultural programing such as music, game nights, theater all while serving local food and beverages.

Moon and Stars will open a restaurant in order to offer restorative food to our community, bring in sustainable guest chefs and serve the food our community makes.
